This finely detailed mosaic is a copy of one of Raphael’s ceiling decorations in the Stanza della Segnatura in the Vatican. Seated among the clouds on a throne carved with the head of the Greek poet Homer, Poetry is personified as a winged female figure, carrying a book and a lyre to indicate both written and sung verse.
