JAMES KIRKWOOD, THE SECOND (ACTIVE 1847)

Plaid brooch

1847-48

RCIN 12899

Queen Victoria was strongly in favour of wearing tartan whilst in Scotland, and Prince Albert appears to have adopted it from 1847. The plaid brooch, hilts, knives and skean dhu are set with Scottish cairngorms. The royal couple went on to design their own tartan for Balmoral.
