Emerald girdle of Maharaja Sher Singh c. 1840

Originally made for Sher Singh in traditional Mughal form, using emeralds from his father Runjit Sing (‘Lion of the Punjab’), the girdle was taken from Lahore in 1849 and presented to Queen Victoria in 1851 after the Great Exhibition.
