Crown of the Emperor Bahadur Shah II second quarter 19th century

This crown belonged to the last Mughal emperor, deposed after the Indian Mutiny in 1857. It was bought at auction in Delhi by an Indian Army officer and offered to the Queen. Prince Albert recognised its historic and symbolic value and concluded the purchase for the Queen through the India Office.
