Buckingham Palace: The Private Chapel

1843-4

RCIN 919912

The Chapel was created by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1844 in what had been designed by John Nash as a conservatory. The Queen was delighted with the result, which had been supervised by the Prince, describing it as ‘beautiful’ and ‘exceedingly restrained’. Damaged in the Second World War, the Chapel was later incorporated in The Queen’s Gallery.

Commissioned by Queen Victoria in 1844
