Vase Chinois

1780

RCIN 36075

These distinctively-coloured vases were initially displayed at Brighton Pavilion – where the chinoiserie motifs would have echoed the surrounding decorative scheme – but they were later moved to Carlton House. The Louis XV-style Chinese scenes and figures on the vases were inspired by contemporary French engravings.

Purchased by George IV, 1818
