Richard Cosway, best known for his flamboyant portrait miniatures of regency society figures including the Prince of Wales, also exhibited a number of classical and mythological scenes, possibly inspired by his own extensive collection of paintings by artists such as Rubens and Jordaens.

First recorded in the Royal Collection in 1870
