JOSEPH NOLLEKENS (1737-1823)

Frederick, Duke of York

signed & dated 1813

RCIN 31621

The Prince Regent surrounded himself with portraits and busts of his family, friends and political allies. He was particularly close to his brother, Frederick, who was nearest to him in age. This bust was commissioned from Nollekens, with another of William, Duke of Clarence, probably to adorn the Entrance Hall at Carlton House.
