A falling giant

This is a study for the central figure in Coriolano’s woodcut of The Fall of the Giants, displayed in the cabinet to the left. The giant is shown against a rocky background, which represents the two mountains which the giants piled on top on each other in their attempt to attack the heavenly realm of the gods.
