The Grand Service

During his life George IV amassed a magnificent silver-gilt dining service, known as the ‘Grand Service’. An initial delivery from the royal goldsmiths Rundell, Bridge & Rundell, which included all the pieces shown here, was made to Carlton House in 1811 at a cost of £70,000. The service incorporated an eclectic variety of decorative motifs, unified by the flamboyance and bold modelling of the individual pieces.
