    RA WARRANTS/CPW/1958

Prince Charles was created Prince of Wales in 1958, when he was only nine.

A recorded message by The Queen at the closing ceremony of the Empire Games at Cardiff announced ‘I intend to create my son, Charles, Prince of Wales, today. When he is grown up I will present him to you at Caernarvon’. This is one of the two Letters Patent (one in English, one in Welsh) that formalised the creation.

The Prince’s investiture took place in Caernarvon Castle on 1 July 1969.
