Thomas Sandby was appointed draughtsman to William, Duke of Cumberland (brother of George II) in 1743 and served with him in Scotland, including at the Battle of Culloden. Thomas continued to work for the Duke of Cumberland when he became Ranger of Windsor Great Park. This watercolour depicts the grounds of Cranbourne Lodge, one of the Duke’s residences near Windsor.
