Books of Hours were intended as private prayer books for ordinary people, matching the hours of the liturgical day. They were usually mass-produced, but could be finely decorated to order. This beautiful volume was probably made for Margaret of Burgundy in Paris, the major centre for the production of Books of Hours in the fifteenth century.
