SIR EDWIN LANDSEER (1803-73)

Eos

Signed and dated 1841

RCIN 403219

The greyhound Eos was Prince Albert’s favourite dog and accompanied her master when he travelled from Germany to marry Queen Victoria in 1840. Here she stands poised and alert, guarding her master’s possessions. Landseer’s paintings were much admired by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert and he produced over forty works for the royal couple, many of which exemplify his skill in the depiction of animals.
