THOMAS WOODRUFF (ACTIVE 1840-60)

Console table

c 1850

RCIN 41007

This table was made for Osborne House, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s residence on the Isle of Wight. The table top is reminiscent of the sixteenth-century Florentine decoration pietra dure, and reflects Prince Albert’s interest in early Italian art. The table and its matching pair were exhibited at the Great Exhibition in 1851 and were awarded Prize Medals.
