STANLEY DEVON (1907-95)

The Queen at her desk, Buckingham Palace

25 Jan 1959

RCIN 2943896

Every day throughout her reign, The Queen has dutifully addressed the contents of her red leather despatch boxes, passed to her by her Private Secretaries. The boxes contain documents, letters and state papers, all of which have to be read and, if necessary, approved and signed. As a result of this, The Queen has acquired an unparalleled knowledge of political issues.
