State Visit to India

18 Nov 1983

RCIN 2943899

The Queen’s visit to St Thomas’ School, New Delhi, took place during her first State Visit to India in 1983. The school was founded in 1930 by an English missionary, Miss Helen Jerwood, for the education of girls. The Queen is pictured returning to her car after a tour of the school, apparently being carried, but actually walking under the canopy of a floorless palanquin.
