The production of the pantomimes was the idea of Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret. Encouraged by the King and Queen, they saw it as a way of reassuring local children who might be worried about the war and providing some festive cheer each Christmas.

Hubert Tannar wrote the scripts and was the produced the performances. The princesses acted alongside children from the Windsor Castle community and pupils of the Royal School. Cyril Woods, a pupil at the Royal School, took leading roles alongside Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret.

The music was performed by the Salon Orchestra of the Royal Horse Guards (The Blues) and the songs were sung by a chorus of children from the Royal School.

The practical arrangements were co-ordinated by many of the Royal Household staff at Windsor Castle.
