ALBRECHT DÜRER (1471-1528)

The Virgin and Child with an angel playing the viol

1519

RCIN 912180

This drawing shows Dürer’s confident and exacting draughtsmanship, with characteristically brisk hatching. The delicate lines with which he worked out the proportions and angle of the Virgin’s face can be seen clearly. Dürer has revised areas of the composition in a paler brown ink, but no associated print or painting is known.
