ANONYMOUS SWISS ARTIST, MID-SIXTEENTH CENTURY

The Wedding at Cana

c.1550

RCIN 912166

This design for a small painted glass panel was probably one of a series showing scenes from the Life of Christ. Here, Christ changes water into wine at a wedding feast. There was a flourishing market for such painted glass scenes in sixteenth-century Switzerland: they were used in both ecclesiastical and domestic buildings.
