ALBRECHT DÜRER (1471-1528)

The Prodigal Son

c.1496

RCIN 800038

The parable of the Prodigal Son represents the sinner returned to the community of the faithful. Here he is shown at his lowest point, as a swineherd, vowing to amend his life. Although this is one of Dürer’s earliest prints, his skill in depicting a variety of textures is already apparent.
