CIRCLE OF HANS BALDUNG GRIEN (C.1485-1545)

St Conrad

c.1520

RCIN 912185

St Conrad demonstrated his faith by drinking a chalice of wine into which a poisonous spider had fallen. Here, he can be seen holding the chalice with the spider on its rim. The drawing was probably made as a study for a painting by an artist associated with Dürer’s former assistant, Hans Baldung Grien.
