CIRCLE OF ROSSO FIORENTINO (GIOVANNI BATTISTA ROSSO) (1495-1540)

A design for a bench

c.1540

RCIN 906852

This colourful design is probably by an artist who was working in the circle of the Florentine Rosso Fiorentino at Fontainebleau. It was undoubtedly intended for one of the many chateaux that were built or renovated in France in the mid-sixteenth century, and is a reminder of the colourful nature of interior decoration in this period.
