Frank Hurley and Leonard Hussey on night watch

In this peaceful domestic scene, Hurley the photographer (left) and Leonard Hussey (1891 – 1964) the meteorologist play a quiet game of chess while on watch. Beside them lie the remains of a supper of tea, bread and sardines. Hussey later practised as a doctor, until his retirement in 1957.
