WILLIAM HOGARTH (1697-1764)

Three figures

c.1730

RCIN 913489

The subject of this drawing is not clear, but it may show a procuress selling her charge’s services. As with many of his drawings on blue paper, Hogarth’s concern here is establishing the position of the figures in black chalk, and working out the highlights in white. Probably purchased by the Prince of Wales (later George IV) in 1801 Cat. 81
