Hughes lived in Barbados for at least 12 years, giving him ample opportunity to study its natural history. A visit to England brought his work to the attention of the scientific community. George II, the Prince and Princess of Wales and other members of the Royal Family subscribed to the work. This copy was bound for Frederick Prince of Wales. Probably acquired by Frederick, Prince of Wales Cat. 182
