This self-portrait is one of five exceptional miniatures by Isaac Oliver acquired by Frederick, Prince of Wales in the 1740s. Oliver worked for the Jacobean Court and in particular for Henry Frederick, Prince of Wales (1594 – 1612). Bought by Frederick, Prince of Wales between 1745 and 1751 Cat. 223
