This pier table is part of a pair. They are richly carved and gilded with yellow siena marble-veneered tops in a rich Franco-Italianate style. They are reputed to have come from Stowe House in Buckinghamshire, one of England’s greatest country houses, which was remodelled in the 1750s by Richard Grenville, 2nd Earl Temple. Acquired by Queen Mary in 1932 Cat. 118
