ATTRIBUTED TO BENJAMIN GOODISON (C.1700-1767)

Mirror

1732-33

RCIN 1164

Classical architectural vocabulary is here employed to the full: a Vitruvian scroll runs around the edge of the plate and the outer edge is carved with egg-and-dart, the sides are hung with acanthus husks and a shell dominates the centre of the cresting which is repeated in a smaller version in the centre of the lower edge. Supplied to Frederick, Prince of Wales in 1732 – 3, probably for Hampton Court Palace Cat. 111
