SIR FRANCIS GRANT (1803-78)

Queen Victoria (1819-1901) riding out

1839-40

RCIN 400749

The young, recently crowned Queen is here seen riding in Windsor Great Park with her dogs, accompanied by Lord Melbourne (her Prime Minister) and other members of her court. The vivacious and still unmarried Queen is shown surrounded by a group of eager admirers. She became engaged to Prince Albert (who is not included among them) soon after the painting’s completion.
