Binding with the arms of Cardinal Alderano Cybo

c. 1645-1700

RCIN 1081284

This elaborate binding, in a late ‘fanfare’ style, was presumably salvaged from a book that was being rebound. It bears the arms of Cardinal Alderano Cybo (1613-1700), who commissioned the rebuilding of the Cybo chapel in Santa Maria del Popolo, Rome, with an altarpiece by Carlo Maratti studied in drawing No. 149
