ATTRIBUTED TO GIROLAMO SAVOLDO (C. 1480-1548)

Portrait of a Man with a Hawk

c. 1510-15

RCIN 405764

This sculptural and intensely naturalistic portrait shows a man feeding a sparrowhawk. Savoldo’s attention to ordinary reality and his use of a single light source were elements of the Lombard tradition, adopted later by Caravaggio.
