This impressive bronze may once have formed a pair with a companion figure of Jupiter’s wife Juno. It was designed to be seen from a low viewpoint, perhaps reflecting a forgotten monumental marble. The pose was probably copied from a well-known bronze statuette by Giambologna representing Hercules with a club. Probably acquired by George IV
