CARLO CESARE MALVASIA (1616-93)

Felsina pittrice : vite de’ pittori bolognesi

1678

RCIN 1151360

A poet, lawyer, teacher and collector, Malvasia wrote several works on Bolognese painting, most notably Felsina pittrice (Felsina being the Etruscan name for Bologna). This blend of anecdote and documentation is our most important source of information on the artists of the Bolognese school, such as Guercino, shown here.
