This painting is a flashback to when Shah-Jahan’s father, Emperor Jahangir, granted his son the title Shah-Jahan (King of the World). Jahangir presents him with a turban ornament symbolising a transmission of power. Their heads are surrounded by shamsas to signify the ‘divine light’ emitted by kings.
