Detail of a gold scabbard presented in Cutch©

Many of the Prince’s gifts of silver and gold were produced using a variety of techniques and skills for which the Indian subcontinent was held in high renown. These gifts include objects that were typically used within the Indian court, but as their craftsmanship began to be admired outside India, these objects were also much sought after by Europeans. Forms and designs were also adapted by Indian craftsmen to cater for the growing European presence in India.
