ALLAN RAMSAY (1713-84)

Princess Elizabeth Albertina, Duchess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1713-61)

c.1769

RCIN 403553

Princess Elizabeth Albertina was Queen Charlotte’s mother and this painting probably forms part of a group of family portraits by Ramsay which were commissioned by Queen Charlotte. It is a posthumous portrait as the Princess died in 1761. Some of the features were based on a portrait of the Princess by Daniel Woge in the Royal Collection, which Ramsay may have seen. Probably painted for Queen Charlotte
