Bowman's Moss, Balmoral Forest

Signed and dated 1868

RCIN 404855

Peter Graham, who trained at the Trustees' Academy in Edinburgh, was inspired by a holiday near the river Dee in Aberdeenshire to concentrate on landscape painting and his works often celebrate the romantic character of the Scottish Highlands. This painting depicts the magnificent scenery around Bowman's Moss, on the Balmoral estate, to the south of the Woods of Garmaddie, where Queen Victoria frequently walked or rode. Acquired by Queen Victoria
