LAURITS REGNER TUXEN (1853-1927)

The Family of King Christian IX and Queen Louise of Denmark

Signed and dated 1885

RCIN 402341

Painted at Fredensborg Palace in Denmark where the British, Russian, Greek, and Danish royal families regularly gathered, on this occasion to celebrate the 65th birthday of Queen Louise. This is the first work by the Danish artist Tuxen to enter the Royal Collection and it is testament to his skill in creating cohesive group portraits that evoke the individuality of the sitters.
