Count Platov, a Russian General, commanded the ‘Don Cossack’ forces against the French during the Napoleonic Wars. He accompanied Emperor Alexander I to London in 1814. In 1815 the Prince Regent commissioned Turnerelli to make this portrait bust of the General for the Armoury at his London residence, Carlton House.
