The Dormition of the Virgin

This icon, possibly from the Iconostasis (icon-screen) of a chapel, depicts the death, resurrection and assumption into heaven of the Virgin Mary, following Orthodox church tradition. The soul of the Virgin is held by Christ above her funeral bier, where she is mourned by the apostles.
