ORLANDO NORIE (1832-1901)

The departure of the Emperor and Empress of Russia from Balmoral, 3 October 1896

drawn 1896

RCIN 919538

Highlanders bearing flaming torches lined the route outside West Lodge, Balmoral, as Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra left by carriage on 3 October 1896. Their 11-day visit to Queen Victoria was primarily a family reunion and was the last time that they would meet her.

Probably purchased by Queen Victoria in 1896.
