Prince Alfred visited Russia while serving with the Royal Navy on board HMS St George. He arrived at Oranienbaum, the imperial estate on the Gulf of Finland, two days after his eighteenth birthday and is depicted speeding through the estate in a carriage with Alexander II, his future father-in-law.

Probably acquired by Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh.
