    The monumental scale and exceptionally grand frame make this an impressive portrait which was sent to Queen Victoria by the Emperor after his visit of 1844.Krüger, a favoured court artist of Nicholas and skilled equestrian painter, adds interest by including the military scenes that flank the sitter.
