Coffee pot

1780

RCIN 49702

Queen Mary’s (1867–1953) interest in Russian decorative art, no doubt encouraged her to purchase this coffee pot, which, according to a label inside, belonged to Catherine II. The design relates closely to an earlier example made for Empress Anna by Nikolai Dom (active 1714–48) in St Petersburg in 1735.

Purchased by Queen Mary, 1933.
