In July 1939 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, accompanied by the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret, visited Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth where Prince Philip was a cadet. He was eighteen at the time and Princess Elizabeth was thirteen. Although their families were related, this was their first publicised meeting. They are shown here playing croquet after lunch.
