Floral decorations by Edward Goodyear on the wedding cakes of HRH Princess Elizabeth

Nov 1947

Gelatin silver print | 20.2 x 14.1 cm (image) | RCIN 2940515

The official wedding cake was made by McVitie and Price and stood over 2.5 meters tall. Eleven other cakes were given as presents. The photograph above shows them on display in the Blue Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace. With post-war food rationing still in place ingredients were sent as wedding presents from overseas. Pieces of cake and food parcels were later distributed to schoolchildren and institutions.
