A Brussels lace lappet

A lappet is a strip of cloth or lace that would have hung down from a headdress. This example, made of fine Brussels lace, was given to Princess Alexandra as a wedding present by Leopold I, King of the Belgians, who was Queen Victoria’s uncle. It carries the same monogram of conjoined As found on the ivory fan.
