The inscription on this linocut dates it to the mid-1930s, when Her Majesty was Princess Elizabeth of York. It shows a rearing horse in the circus ring, reminding us that horses were of interest to The Queen from an early age. Linocuts are a simple form of printmaking. A design is cut into the surface of a piece of lino. The lino is then inked with a roller and pressed onto a piece of paper to create the print.
