A painted & gilded wooden female bust, the figure looking down to the right, her hair in ringlets, in a leather bound octagonal case, lined with green velvet, with 2 hinged doors each in 3 sections. Polychrome (painted in multiple colours, usually over wood (as in this case), terracotta or plaster) figures and busts have been common features in Italian churches and homes since their creation during the Renaissance.
